Major Changes In OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard

OSHA’s decision to revise the hazard communication is perhaps the most noteworthy rulemaking efforts over the decades. This decision has been made to ally it with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nation. Though, not finalized yet, the rulemaking would affect over 5 millions of businesses and over 120 employees across the country. Under the new proposal, over 40 million employees would have to go under safety training on hazard communication. The estimated annualized compliance costs would be almost 100 million dollars for employers but the estimated annualized benefits are approximately $850 million. There is a broad scope of the proposed rule and already all employers are now encouraged to familiarize with the requirements and participate in the process of the rulemaking. What is HAZWOPER Training all about

HAZWOPER training is a safety program which is created by the government to ensure the safety of workers who handle hazardous materials at their workplace. The training also teaches them what should be done if there is any accident involving hazardous substance. The evolution of the idea Hazwoper training was through the creation of several different governmental agencies. In the year 1976, the Environmental Protection Agency created a group which was known as the Resource Conservation Act. The purpose behind the formation of the act was to regulate the handling of hazardous waste. With the passing years, the government knew that they need to do more to protect individuals who worked with the hazardous materials.
