Hazwoper training is one of the most demanded training in terms of environmental health and safety. OSHA provides Hazwoper Training Curriculum Guidelines to be followed but these are not enforceable. - Model Program: Everyone provides Hazwoper “train-the-trainer” program but many provide model programs which are one step above this training programs. Apprentice training may not be involved in train-the trainer program wherein one trainer learns under another trainer. The best train-the trainer program covers training techniques, including methods for adult learners in addition to detailed lectures and hands on work with technical and regulatory subjects. Courses vary in length. Always ask the trainer for his certificate before attending the course.
- Annually Updates: If the trainer has completed a formal refresher course on Hazwoper Training within a one year period then provide him a score of 10 on 10.If trainer has not completed the course then based on course the trainer has completed you can give a score of 1 point for each course. Also one needs to give an additional point for refresher course which needs to be 2 years old.
- Field Experience: A full time hazardous waste site employee or emergency responder teaching Hazwoper course online should be granted 10 points each. Check if the field experience relates to just one activity and if it is then just reduce the points. If field experience is more than 5 years just reduce the points.
- Insurance: One needs to check whether the trainer is having any professional or general liability insurance. One needs to check on some important aspects like hands-on training activities such as Hazwoper are included. If no insurance coverage is included one needs to give zero points to the trainer.
- Credentials: One needs to check whether trainer qualifies for a reputable organization or is as competent and qualified such as safety or health There are more than 200 credentials. If a provider is having more credentials it would lead to earning up of 10 points.
- Formal Education: Check that the trainer who is providing you training for the course is having any degree from reputable organization. If a person is a P.H.D you may want him to give 10 points , M.S nine points, B.S an eight point.
