EPA has selected OAI Incorporation to get $500,000 in grant funding which would make employees trained for accessing and cleaning up of brownfield sites.
Such a big amount of funding would be supported by American Recovery and ReInvestment Act 2009.
The OAI Incorporation has a well established program which would help them to train 80 students and place 64 graduates in green jobs. This program would consist of 98 hours of training followed by other 168 hours of environmental training or 96 hours of energy conservation training.
The participants who get successful graduated from this program would receive certifications in OSHA Construction and hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
From past many years EPA has awarded more than $25 million in brown fields jobs. Out of which 5000 people have completed training in EPA with around 3000 getting jobs into environmental fields.
The BrownFields are sites where expansion, development, or reuse can be very difficult with the presence of hazardous substance, pollutant and others. In 2002, the small business liability relief fund was passed wherein the brownfield definition was expanded.
This brownfield program now encourages the development of American’s estimated 450,000 waste sites leading to more and more people being aware of this program.
Making people aware would lead to more green belt development across countries.
